NH Fallen Firefighters Memorial Restoration project

Dear Member,                                                                                                June 2, 2022

Thank you for your membership in the New Hampshire State Firemen’s Association. Since 1899 our organization has been providing valuable benefits, championing important legislation, and awareness for the firefighters of the Granite State.

In addition to providing benefits, your membership dues in our organization also helps to maintain and preserve the New Hampshire Fallen Firefighters Memorial. In 2006, the “Call to Brotherhood” initiated by the NH Corp of Fire Chaplains and the Lambert family and so many others that helped to build our memorial is still just as strong today! 16 years after its creation, our organization continues to preserve and maintain the memorial that honors our fallen.

Beginning early this year, your organization and the memorial committee began planning the first full restoration of the memorial. This includes several much-needed repairs, which include rebuilding the main staircase that has begun to settle, causing each stair to be uneven. Other repairs include replacing the stone eternal flame bowl that has cracked in several places, leveling the entire patio surface, and repositioning the granite benches that surround the memorial patio. The cause of many of these issues is simple time, and the different weather events we experience each that impact the memorial.

After months of planning and consultation with professional contractors, the cost to complete the restoration project exceeds $30,000. We have contracted with a professional company to begin the restoration project in mid-July and will be completed prior to September 1st so that it does not impact the annual 9/11 remembrance hosted by the New Hampshire Fire Academy or our annual memorial service.

We cannot complete this restoration without your help! Since its creation, our organization has paid the annual expenses to maintain the memorial, which includes the cost of the propane to fuel the eternal flame, preparation and planning for the annual memorial event, monthly landscaping costs, and brick repairs. So how can you help? Purchase a brick for the memorial patio to honor a friend, family member, department member or your department, or by making a personal donation to the memorial. Without your help and support, we would not have this hallowed ground to honor our fallen friends, family, and co-workers. It is our mission and duty to continue the legacy that began 16 years ago!

The last weekend in September is reserved for our annual Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial Service. Please mark your calendars, share the date with your department members, and please plan to attend to support our firefighters and the families of our fallen member
